LiDAR Small Enough for Wrist Integration Demands Rethinking Robot Perception Experiments
Last Wednesday afternoon, my grad student Xiao Chen rushed into the lab excitedly, with RoboSense's newly released E2 all-solid-state LiDAR spec sheet on his phone screen. He's working on object grasping at the end-effector of a robotic arm and has been complaining that existing L4-level LiDARs are too bulky, affecting kinematic constraints when mounted on the wrist. The E2 claims a 60% reduction in overall volume and a 40% weight decrease, allowing seamless integration into robot heads and wrists. Xiao Chen thought this was a "godsend," but my first reaction was: did he choose the right baseline for this experimental design?
