BYD Brazil Plant Rolls Out 100,000th Vehicle: A Gamble on Localization or Prelude to Globalization?
On July 16 local time, at BYD's factory in Brazil, a Seagull EV slowly rolled off the production line. The car was marked with "No. 100,000," and the workers standing beside it cheered and applauded—many of them locals hired from around Salvador, Bahia state, over the past year. With over 5,500 employees on site, capacity expansion and localized employment are accelerating in tandem. In this moment, BYD seems to have shed the label of a "Chinese automaker going global" and become a "local enterprise" putting down roots in Brazil.
