UTP Protocol: Shifting B2B from Information Interconnection to AI Agent Interoperability—But It's Just the First Step
The UTP (Universal Transaction Protocol) launched by Alibaba's 1688 in collaboration with the China Electronics Standardization Institute and Ant Group essentially addresses a long-neglected infrastructure issue: when AI Agents start replacing humans for procurement inquiries, contract comparisons, and logistics tracking, heterogeneous systems lack a unified "business language" protocol. The core logic of this experimental design is similar to the role TCP/IP played in the early days of the internet—it doesn't define what the application layer does, but rather how data packets are reliably transmitted. However, whether UTP can truly become the "TCP/IP" of the B2B sector depends on its ability to resolve three core contradictions in AI Agent interoperability: semantic alignment, trust anchoring, and game-theoretic equilibrium.
