MacWhisper 14 Update: A Self-Redemption via 'CPU Fix,' Not an AI Transcription Milestone

Let's look at some data: In the MacWhisper 14.0 changelog, a new editor view was added as a core feature, and high CPU usage issues were listed under "fixes." According to developer Jordi Bruin's blog post, since its release in 2023, the tool has undergone 14 major version updates, but its core functionality still relies on OpenAI's Whisper model—underlying technology that has been open-source for two years and repackaged by countless developers. User feedback regarding "CPU usage exceeding 90%" and "slow export speeds" includes over 200 posts on Reddit and GitHub, yet this update provided no performance comparison data, merely brushing it off with a "fixed" note.

They haven't even run a benchmark to show how much this algorithm actually saves. Who's going to believe them just saying they fixed CPU usage? Drivers use this thing daily, and their most common complaint is slow exports. Changing the editor view isn't half as useful as optimizing performance first.
