Regulation as Another Hackathon: Hassabis's Centralization vs. Community Audit Protocols
I noticed an interesting detail: When Hassabis proposed a global AI regulator, he used the analogy of "something like CERN or the IAEA." These two institutions—one being a super-lab for particle physics, the other the global police for nuclear energy—are essentially closed systems that require massive funding, government backing, and allow participation by only a few players. AI, conversely, is more like the Linux kernel: any developer with a GPU can fork a model, fine-tune it, and deploy it to edge devices.
