IBM tanked 20% in pre-market, dragging down the software sector with it. This signal is pretty clear: Spending on AI infrastructure is eating into enterprise software budgets, and this trend might be much more intense than most people expect.

IBM plunged 20% pre-market, dragging down the software sector. This signal is actually quite clear: investment in AI infrastructure is eating into corporate software budgets, and this trend may be much more intense than most people anticipate.

I tried looking at this from an engineering perspective. The logic behind enterprise software procurement hasn't changed: either cut costs or increase revenue. The SaaS boom over the past few years was essentially because companies believed buying software could optimize business processes and deliver ROI. But things are different now. Companies have suddenly realized that the true equivalent of cost reduction might come from AI itself.

I've assembled a GPU cluster myself to run models, and low utilization is indeed a pain point. Enterprise-grade scheduling and thermal optimization are big pitfalls; liquid cooling solutions aren't cost-effective for small manufacturers to handle internally. Have any of you tried mixed deployment of training and inference to improve utilization?
