Where should I start automating with WorkBuddy? I'm a bit lost
WorkBuddy can definitely do more than what I'm using it for now. The problem is I don't know what the first thing I should hand it is.
I scrolled past the news about Zoom's "agent team" thing, saying that in the future a commander agent will break down tasks and dispatch people itself. Reading it made me think of the WorkBuddy on my own computer. Installed less than a month ago, and in practice I just have it edit documents and pull text out of a few screenshots. I set up two scheduled tasks, and the output is hit or miss.
What I want to do is actually very concrete. Every day when Duoduo comes home from school, I have to photograph her homework notebook, test papers, and wrong-answer sheets and save a copy, then organize them into a list over the weekend. Right now I take the photos on the iPad myself, dump them into the album, and flip through them on the weekend. I want WorkBuddy to automatically pull that day's images from that folder at 5:30 every afternoon, split them by subject, and transcribe the wrong answers into text while it's at it. Sounds easy. Tried three times, none worked.
First time I just wrote a sentence in the new task: "organize and categorize today's homework images." It reported success, I opened the folder, empty. Second time I changed it to read the folder first then process — it also went through last month's images, all mixed into one pile. Third time I added the date, output appeared, but the filenames were all garbled and you couldn't tell which was which subject.
What I most want to ask now is: for this kind of job that needs to "read files first, then act," do you have to split it into two tasks run in sequence? A while back I wrote a post asking about scheduled tasks running on an empty folder at midnight — at the time I thought it was free-tier queueing, later someone said it was a task dependency order issue. This time I adjusted the order, still no good. Or maybe I filled in some step wrong.
Has anyone actually gotten a "auto-organize photos every day" flow like this working? Tell me what to create first. I don't want to blindly try a fourth time.
