Has Tencent AI Truly Turned a Corner? A Manager's Perspective

Last week, Tencent's Hunyuan Hy3 official version was released. No launch event, no massive PR blitz. It was the first deliverable from Yao Shunyu after joining as a former OpenAI researcher, entering the market with an extremely low profile. As someone who has long followed AI infrastructure and engineering efficiency, I couldn't help but ask: Did Tencent AI "fall asleep" over the past two years, or were they "building internal strength"? At this point, have they actually turned things around?

To answer this, we can't just look at model metrics; we need to examine organization, strategy, and ROI. Let's compare with two entities: ByteDance (Doubao LLM) and Baidu (ERNIE Bot).…

I know Yao Shunyu personally; his accumulation in multimodal reasoning is indeed solid. The direction is right, but team execution is key, especially with Tencent's middle-platform architecture, which tends to disconnect from business operations. It's not too late to judge once there's a real-world implementation case.
