The Game Behind 25 DOFs: How the 1X Neo Hand Will Reshape Open-Source Robotics

25 degrees of freedom, haptic feedback, washable. The Neo robotic hand released by 1X has already excited many robot developers with its specs, and in actual demo videos, its dexterity even exceeded many people's expectations. But as an observer who has long focused on open-source community governance, I care more about this: How will this technology interact with the open-source ecosystem? Will it become yet another "closed-source barrier," or can it be transformed into an asset for shared community growth?

Short term: Tech is impressive, but community barriers might rise instead of fall

From a technical perspective, the speed shown by the Neo robotic hand…

25 DOF, power management for motor drives is a huge pitfall; balancing ripple and efficiency across multiple independent power supplies is tough. Tactile feedback needs low noise, and offset calibration due to process deviations is even more of a headache. TI's power solutions need to keep up with this pace.
