Native CarPlay in Cars Feels Like Installing a Universal Gateway at Home

The more I look at car OTA updates, the more they seem like smart home gateways. No matter how many devices you have at home, when users walk in, they just want to turn on the lights. But instead, they have to configure the network first, then find the app, then agree to privacy policies—the experience falls apart. Car infotainment systems are the same. No matter how big the screen is, what users really want when they get in the car are the habits they've already built on their phones: navigation, music, calls, and AC. Aion's i60 started rolling out batch updates from August 30th. The official claim is 8 core upgrades, 12 optimizations, totaling 20 updates. My first reaction wasn't about whether there were many features, but that it finally put native Apple CarPlay into the main workflow.

From an architectural perspective, treating the car infotainment system as a gateway creates too much coupling, leading to scalability issues.
