Debian's AI vote was a total flop.

Heads up. Debian has been voting on AI rules over the past couple of days. There were eight options ranging from "completely ban LLMs from writing code" to "let people use it freely," and they ended up choosing a middle ground. It neither encourages nor prohibits AI use; instead, it requires users who employ AI to vouch for themselves, taking responsibility for technical quality, security, and license compliance.

Community governance is just like hardcoding configs—changing a parameter requires a full vote. No need for that; if it works, it works.

A vote gets more funding approved for the lab? Better to ask reviewers to reject fewer papers.
