Mandatory national standards for BeiDou positioning modules: What this means for hardware developers

The first mandatory national standard for BeiDou applications in the transportation industry has been finalized, with implementation starting February 1, 2027. The news is brief, but anyone working in embedded systems or dealing with positioning modules should know that this is bigger than it looks on the surface.

The same chip with different peripheral circuits can result in multiples of difference... this is so real. When I was testing modules before, just changing the layout made the positioning drift beyond recognition. Standardizing test methods definitely saves trouble. Otherwise, every time we select components, we have to verify everything from scratch. It's exhausting.

Haha, I totally get that last part. Different peripheral circuits can lead to performance differences of several times. We previously tested one chip with different LNAs, and the cold start time varied by tens of seconds... This national standard coming out is actually good news. At least future component selection won't require us to step on all the pitfalls ourselves.
