Not releasing a stronger Model 2: How does that add up?

Not releasing a stronger Model 2 is way more interesting from a financial perspective than a technical one. Anthropic internally admitted they have a model stronger than Mythos but actively chose not to release it, citing rising risks. For an AI company to hold a stronger card and choose not to play it—that's rare.

Interesting analogy, but we need to consider dataset bias when comparing unmerged open-source PRs vs. unreleased commercial models—the former represents marginal improvements, while the latter signifies capability leaps. If academia can't access stronger baselines, the persuasiveness of papers will suffer.

This reminds me of some open-source project maintainers choosing not to merge certain PRs—not because the tech was bad, but because the community ecosystem wasn't ready yet. Strong control is good, but it also affects the pace of downstream innovation.

If they don't release something strong, will tools like WorkBuddy that I bought still have a few more years left?... Thinking about it that way actually makes me feel relieved, haha

Lol, isn't this just waiting for others to play their cards first... Anthropic is holding onto trump cards without playing them; nine times out of ten they're watching how OpenAI moves this round, waiting to gauge market reaction before acting.
