BYD breaks into Japan's K-Car market by 'breaking the rules'
In Japan, Kei cars (K-Cars) are almost like a religion. Their length, width, and height are strictly limited by law, with engine displacement capped at 660cc, yet they can fit a family of four, squeeze into narrow alleys, and park right in front of convenience stores. Suzuki, Daihatsu, and Honda have dominated this market for thirty years, like three old trees with deeply intertwined root systems, making it nearly impossible for outsiders to break in. BYD's Seagull RACCO is a vine trying to squeeze through the cracks between those roots.
