Cursor's India Pricing: A Calculated Global Strategy, Not Just a 'Discount'
During a team retrospective last week, an Indian engineer mentioned that young developers back home are buzzing about Cursor's newly released Start plan. One of them said bluntly, "We finally have a world-class tool we can afford—it costs about three cups of bubble tea." That statement made me pause. As managers, we often talk about "globalization," but there are very few AI tool companies that truly factor purchasing power differences into their pricing strategy. Cursor's move looks like just a price adjustment, but it's actually a deep coupling of organizational capability and market judgment.
