Zhonghao Xinying unveils 2nd-gen TPU, 1,000-card cluster in Hangzhou
KEY FACTS
- Zhonghao Xinying unveiled its second-generation TPU chip, Xuyu, at WAIC, delivering roughly three times the performance of the previous generation.
- East China's first domestic-TPU 1,000-card intelligent computing cluster has been completed in Hangzhou, built jointly by China Telecom, ZTE and Zhonghao.
- The cluster targets large-model training and inference, with token output efficiency more than 10 times higher than at the start of the year.
- The new chip has completed basic adaptation work for mainstream open-source models including Qwen and DeepSeek.
KEY DATA
896TFLOPSMixed-precision floating-point compute
1792TOPS8-bit inference compute
600WRated power per chip
PHYSIX OBSERVATION
Surging inference costs are reshaping the compute landscape, and TPUs are entering the market on the strength of their energy-efficiency ratio. The Hangzhou cluster's completion marks the shift of domestic specialized chips from single-point breakthroughs to system-level validation. The carriers' heterogeneous deployment strategy shows that future competition will hinge not on any single hardware spec, but on cost-effectiveness per token and ecosystem-migration capability under software-hardware co-design.
