Geely, Google Partner; First Google-Equipped Car Due H2 2027
KEY FACTS
- Geely Holding has entered a global strategic partnership with Google to jointly build a digital cockpit ecosystem for overseas markets.
- The first vehicle equipped with the related services is planned for launch in the second half of 2027, with timing subject to development and compliance progress.
- The partner vehicles will feature Google Automotive Services, including the Gemini AI assistant, Google Maps, and the app store.
- Polestar joined the partnership in 2020, and it will later extend to brands including Geely, Lynk & Co, Proton, Radar, and smart.
PHYSIX OBSERVATION
Geely is using Google's ecosystem to shore up its weak overseas cockpit offerings, a pragmatic move. But with rollout only in 2027, the pace is slow, and deep binding to Google means ceding control over data and user experience. Chinese automakers going global are shifting from selling cars to selling ecosystems; only those who can balance localization and globalization will win overseas users.
