Tesla Cybercab to Show Side-Rear Camera Feeds to Passengers
KEY FACTS
- A Tesla engineer responded to a passenger suggestion, saying the on-demand side-rear camera feed feature is in development.
- The Cybercab has no interior or exterior rearview mirrors, so passengers currently cannot see the sides and rear of the vehicle while in motion.
- Existing camera feeds only pop up upon arrival at the destination, for checking the surrounding environment before exiting.
- More than 300 Cybercabs have been deployed in Austin, and Dallas will be the next city to open the service.
- NHTSA raised 21 questions to Tesla regarding Cybercab compliance, and Tesla was granted a 30-day extension to respond.

PHYSIX OBSERVATION
Removing the rearview mirrors is Tesla's ultimate bet on autonomous driving, but passenger peace of mind cannot rely on algorithms alone. Opening up the camera feed is a low-cost psychological compensation, and it also exposes regulatory pressure: NHTSA's 21 questions point directly at compliance weaknesses. Feature patches are easy to apply, but regulatory thresholds are hard to bypass. Before Cybercab can scale, it must first pass the test of safety trust.
