Microsoft to retire Outlook Copilot themes globally in October

KEY FACTS

  • Microsoft will retire the Copilot themes feature in Outlook worldwide in mid-to-late October 2026.
  • The retirement covers the new Outlook for Windows, macOS, and Outlook.com on the web.
  • Copilot themes let the AI generate a visual interface style from a prompt.
  • Microsoft will also remove Outlook's "Wrap up your day" inbox summary feature.
  • Microsoft plans to update the Outlook Copilot experience in October 2026, shifting to a chat-centric design.

PHYSIX OBSERVATION

When an AI feature gets pulled, it usually isn't because the tech failed - it's because nobody used it. Nice-to-have customization gimmicks like Copilot themes get abandoned once the novelty wears off. Microsoft killing it and pivoting to chat-style interaction shows the deciding factor in AI office work is still the core workflow, not the skin.
