Tencent WorkBuddy launches standalone file browser with right-click AI

KEY FACTS

Tencent WorkBuddy has launched a standalone file browser that lets users right-click to open files from the system file manager.
The browser supports viewing and editing of Word, Excel, PPT, PDF, Markdown, HTML, and other formats.
Multiple files open as tabs, and the AI chat panel on the right switches in sync when tabs are switched.
Users can select body paragraphs and have Buddy rewrite or polish them, with changes applied directly to the current document.
Word and similar files are written back to local storage after saving, while Markdown and HTML are auto-saved after editing.

PHYSIX OBSERVATION

Putting AI into the right-click menu amounts to bypassing the entrance wars among cloud document providers and directly seizing the local file processing scenario. For users this is a good thing—no upload needed to revise a draft; for WPS and Office, it is pressure—when AI becomes the default way to open files, how much of a moat do document tools have left?
