PHYSIX OBSERVATION
Waymo heading north to Canada looks like map expansion on the surface, but in substance it is putting autonomous driving through a stress test in winter ice and snow. Toronto is colder and has more complex road conditions than Waymo's existing US cities; if the technology passes, it will add credibility to its global replication. But there is still a long road from pilot to commercial service, and users will find it hard to hail a ride in the near term.
