Google Deep Review expands from paper review to general document vetting
KEY FACTS
- Google publicly released Deep Review on October 14, capable of reviewing documents and performing technical verification.
- The system's predecessor, PAT, was piloted at four top conferences, where authors of over 16,000 submissions used it voluntarily.
- Author feedback during the pilot was positive; data was not used for training, and papers were deleted after the project ended.
- Deep Review uses a four-stage agent workflow and supports Gemini 4 Argon.
- The system can review documents across legal, financial, and other domains, and a team collaboration mode has already launched.
KEY DATA
16000+Pilot submission volume
74000+2026 submissions to three major AI conferences
about 450002025 submissions to three major AI conferences
320002024 submissions to three major AI conferences
PHYSIX OBSERVATION
AI-generated content is exploding while human review capacity has remained essentially flat, and this bottleneck has already spread from academia to legal, financial, and other domains. By generalizing a paper-review tool, Google is effectively admitting that verification is becoming a critical weak point for AI deployment. But the tool only performs logical and factual checks, leaving higher-order judgment to humans, and whether users accept this division of labor is the real test.
