Xiaomi humanoid robot completes 8-hour full shift at EV plant
KEY FACTS
- Xiaomi released video showing its humanoid robot working a continuous 8-hour shift at its EV factory, sorting center-console side covers.
- Xiaomi says the robot ran fully autonomously throughout, detected and corrected anomalies on its own, and coordinated with the production line control system.
- In March, the robot was installing self-tapping nuts at the Beijing plant, reaching a 90.2% success rate over three hours.
- By July, Xiaomi said the success rate had risen to 98%, with two additional, more difficult workstations added.
- Xiaomi did not disclose the number of parts sorted, the success rate, or the number of human interventions during the 8-hour shift.
- Xiaomi's open-source model Xiaomi-Robotics-1 is being trialed in employee apartments, completing more than 50 task chains in 30 minutes.

PHYSIX OBSERVATION
Xiaomi puts its robot on a real production line and publishes partial success rates, which is more substantial than most vendors that only release videos. But all the key numbers for the 8-hour shift are missing, so autonomy still cannot be verified. In the video, the wheeled-chassis robot is actually the more pragmatic choice: factory floors are flat, and wheels save more power, are more stable, and can carry bigger batteries than legs, so a humanoid form is not necessarily the optimal solution for a production line.
